Talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government begin in Qatar
Doha: Talks are underway between the Taliban and the Afghan government in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
According to a foreign news agency, the Afghan government delegation is led by Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of Afghanistan’s High National Reconciliation Council, and the Taliban delegation is led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
Former President Hamid Karzai and several other dignitaries are also attending the Doha talks. Abdullah says violence in Afghanistan has increased, but there is an urgent need for peace at the negotiating table. He hopes the Taliban will see the talks as an opportunity for peace and understand that more Occupying more territory will not bring peace.
