Taliban advance Tajik president orders deployment of 20,000 troops on Afghan border
KABUL: After the Taliban took control of most districts in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, Tajikistan’s president has ordered the deployment of 20,000 troops along the province’s Tajik border.
According to the International News Agency, the Taliban are advancing in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, the Taliban have formed a government in most areas, and security forces have fled across the border into Tajikistan, while hundreds of Afghans have fled. Families also crossed the border to seek refuge in Tajikistan.
The Tajik president called on the international community to convene an emergency meeting on the situation and recommended that neighboring countries Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan convene a Security Council meeting.
