Russia will not back down from buying missiles, Turkey responds to US
ANKARA: The Turkish president says he has given a clear answer to the US president on the issue of buying missiles from Russia.
Speaking to the media on his return from Azerbaijan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan said that US President Joe Biden had made it clear in the meeting that Turkey would take a stand on the purchase of Russian-made S-400 missiles. Under no circumstances will Turkey back down, with Turkey likely to take over after the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan later this year.
It should be noted that the United States has repeatedly criticized Turkey for buying Russia’s state-of-the-art S-400 missile system and imposed sanctions on it. However, Turkey has taken a blunt stance on the issue, keeping US pressure at bay. The first test of the latest missile system S-400 has also been successful.
