Immediate transfer of World Cup from India is unlikely
New Delhi: The immediate transfer of the T20 World Cup from India is unlikely as the BCCI on Tuesday asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to extend its hosting decision by a month.
The ICC board meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, with a final decision on whether to host the T20 World Cup, but the Indian board will request a postponement of any decision in this regard for a month, the mega event said. The tournament is scheduled to move to the United Arab Emirates in October and November due to corona virus cases.
Although the BCCI has decided to complete its IPL in the UAE in September-October, it wants to host the World Cup in its own country, so it is unlikely that any decision will be forthcoming at the ICC board meeting. Yes, there will be another special general meeting of the BCCI after July 1, in which the situation of corona virus in the country will be reviewed.
The official announcement of hosting by the ICC will be made at the annual conference scheduled for July 18. At the ICC Board meeting, the BCCI will also update on tax exemptions from the government for the mega event.
Sources said that although the board is in touch with the government in this regard, it may be difficult to waive the tax amount of Rs 906 crore, the next meeting of the future tour program will also be discussed in the ICC meeting.
