Horrific explosions at a military base in Kazakhstan kill 4 and injure 60
NURSULTAN: At least four people were killed and 60 others were injured in a series of horrific explosions at a Kazakh military base.
A military base in southern Kazakhstan was hit by 10 horrific explosions, according to the International News Agency. The blasts ignited a fierce fire at the military base and sent black clouds of smoke into the air.
A Kazakh military spokesman said the blast killed four soldiers and wounded more than 60. It was not immediately clear what caused the blasts, but they were carried out at the site where the engineering explosives were stored.
The area was evacuated after the blasts, while the dead and injured were shifted to a military hospital where the condition of nine injured is said to be critical. The death toll is expected to rise.
A statement from Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry said there was no evidence of a terrorist element in the bombings at the base. An inquiry committee has been formed to probe the incident.
